MENTAL HEALTH

Mental Health is the most important and prime work field for the clinical psychologist. According to demands made in this area of Kamonyi District population, clinical and health psychologists have been working in this area for a longer time than in any other.

The kind of interventions implemented depends on the population where the intervention is made (children or adults) and on intervention type (preventive, treatment and rehabilitation).

The Mental Health and Clinical Psychology Department is open five (5) days per week, 9 hours per day to inpatient and outpatient patient populations.

Mental Health and Clinical Psychology personnel in Remera Rukoma Hospital include personnel with Bachelor’s degree (1) in psychology and 2 nurses A1 in mental health. Assignments within the department are based in Consultation, Treatment, Psychotherapy, Health center supervision, Counseling Palliative care, HIV/AIDS and terminal care illnesses, and PTSD management.

  • Put in practice the directives from hierarchy authorities regarding quality improvement
  • To participate in quality improvement process within his department
  • To be the key of continuous quality improvement within his service 
  • To make implementation follow-up of recommendations from data analysis of quality improvement
  • Based on standards compliance assessment findings, plan for quality improvement

Responsabilities:

  • Evaluation, therapy and monitoring of hospitalized cases in clinical and surgical services within the hospital
  • Engage in preventive activities with schools
  • Participate in programs to reintegrate mental cases patients
  • Participate in medical visits in different services
  • Participate in health education
  • Lead psycho educational groups
  • Carry out supervision of health centers
  • Establish and manage files of patients received in consultation
  • Maintain a register of consultation
  • Attend meetings of the Board of quality in service
  • Participate in staff meetings
  • Do everything else asks by his supervisor at the work
  • Respect of values and taboos as being developed in the internal rules and regulations of the hospital
