LABORATORY
The Clinical Laboratory Department of Remera Rukoma District Hospital provides comprehensive testing and blood bank services for all patients utilizing the facility.
The Clinical Laboratory is open seven (7) days per week, 24 hours per day to inpatient and outpatient patient populations. General laboratory tests: Hematology, Parasitology ,Immuno-serology, Bacteriology, Biochemistry, Mycobacteriology, and Blood Bank services are available
The Clinical Laboratory personnel include personnel with biomedical laboratory sciencies A0 (1), Human biology A1(1) Biomedical Technician A1 (3) and Biomedical Technician A2 (1) in Biomedical laboratory. Assignments within the department are based upon the complexity of the testing requirements. The laboratory has the required equipment including but not limited to Sysmex, humalayzer 3500, QBC AUTO READ, MICROSCOPS etc.. All personnel have an understanding and are able to demonstrate knowledge of the laboratory specific safety and infection control policies and procedures, as well as, the organizational safety management and utility management programs.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the execution of requests for laboratory examinations signed by a hospital doctor
- Ensure Samples collected in good condition
- Perform laboratory tests specified in the list of Complementary Package of Activities (PCA )
- Participate in meetings and other activities of the hospital
- Participate in the medical/clinical staff
- Provide effective leadership of the medical laboratory service, including budget planning and financial management, in accordance with institutional assignment of such responsibilities;
- Relate and function effectively with applicable accrediting and regulatory agencies, appropriate administrative officials, the healthcare community, and the patient population served, and providers of formal agreements, when required;
- Ensure that there are appropriate numbers of staff with the required education, training and competence to provide medical laboratory services that meet the needs and requirements of the users;
- Ensure the implementation of the quality policy;
- Implement a safe laboratory environment in compliance with good practice and applicable requirements;
- Serve as a contributing member of the medical staff for those facilities served, if applicable and appropriate;
- Ensure the provision of clinical advice with respect to the choice of examinations, use of the service and interpretation of examination results;
- Select and monitor laboratory suppliers;
- Select referral laboratories and monitor the quality of their service.
- Provide professional development programmes for laboratory staff and opportunities to participate in scientific and other activities of professional laboratory organizations;
- Define, implement and monitor standards of performance and quality improvement of the medical laboratory service or services;
- Monitor all work performed in the laboratory to determine that clinically relevant information is being generated;
- Address any complaint, request or suggestion from staff and/or users of laboratory services.
